Village Facilities

Beach.
| What
the village has to offer you. Unlike other tourist villages (Sidari, Kavos,
Benitses, Ipsos), the village of Ag. Stefanos Corfu Greece has been developed
by the locals over a long period of 15 years (so far). This resulted in the village
being spread over a wide area and not as a one road strip such as Sidari, Kavos,
Benitses and Ipsos. The village of Ag. Stefanos in Corfu, Greece is more
of a friendly family resort catering for all and run by the locals who are not
professional business men trying to extract your last Drachma. This can
be seen during the winter when the owners of these restaurants, bars etc. change
into their working clothes and collect olives or become builders and fishermen. Never
the less the village has all the basic facilities that a visitor to this resort
could possibly want. | " Shopping "

Olivewood gift shop.
| Food, Cigarettes, Gifts for all. Corfu
offers a wide variety of gifts, below is what I think are good buy's and also
make a good gift to a friend / loved one. CLOTHES AND LACE: The pretty cheesecloth
dresses are good value, as are the cotton T shirts, generally much cheaper than
UK, and of good quality. The lace is all hand made, not cheap but very beautiful. OLIVE
WOOD: Everywhere you look on the island you will see olive trees growing. From
this wonderful wood, craftsman fashion numerous household items and ornaments
by hand. The wood is not vanished but oiled or polished to show off the unique
grain. One such shop is on Paneliniou street (marked as a tourist shopping street),
where the owner also works. GOLD AND SILVER: The gold is generally of 14
or 18 carat, and will be weighted to find the price. A lot of the designs are
unique, and also should you have your own idea, certain shops in town will make
it. Silver has always been a good buy, and not limited to jewellery only, there
are also silver dishes and photo frames. FURS: Furs are comparatively inexpensive
in Greece, and if you have ever thought of owning one, this would be a good time
to buy. There is a selection of shops in Corfu town so don't buy from the first
shop you find. If you do decide to buy a fur coat, the shop will usually have
it delivered to England (saves extra baggage). There are also a good choice of
leather jackets in the town, many with unusual designs. EDIBLES: Of course
you must take some olive oil home, also the Metaxa brandy and ouzo are a good
buy. Also the nougat and the Greek (Turkish) delight. If making a large
purchase, normally a discount is offered if paying cash. |

View of harbour
| A
fishing village! The harbour is very big but due to the currents most of
the bay has filled up with sand. The result is a maximum depth of around 2 meters. This
harbour is also used by all the local fishermen and hence is generally quite full.

Medical aid
| Hope
you won't need this information! Corfu understandably has a large number
of tourists and because of this some Medical Centre's have been set up catering
basically for the tourist trade, the prices charged are more expensive than the
local GP if contacted directly. We have put forward below an English speaking
Doctor and Dentist both of whose practises are in Corfu Town.
