The ListonOne of the most popular areas in the town must be the Liston where you will find numerous cafes and shady places to sit and have a cool drink while watching the world go by. This elegant and aristocratic arcade will remind you of the Rue de Rivoli of France. It was designed by the French engineer de Lesseps during 1807. According to tradition, this was the place where the nobles lived since it was the families whose names were listed that were entitled to walk under the arcades. The Liston today is a meeting place for everybody and a memory will always linger connecting the Liston with the people one has seen there. Each arcade is decorated with a lamp which is lit at night. The Old Fortress is separated from the town by a deep moat and just has to be visited to discover the overwhelming amounts of history within its walls.Corfu Town has a great deal of exquisite architecture. Different buildings' architecture reflects the many cultural styles that have passed through this town. The Liston is now crowded with cafes, but was once a place where noble families lived during the French occupancy. |
