Eating Out - Restaurants and Tavernas
If you're looking for plenty of variety, then Corfu Town is the place
to go for a bite to eat. Below is a list of just a few of the places to
try out.
In the back streets of the Old Town (Campbeelo) this charming restaurant/wine
bar provides a variety of European dishes. There is a different menu each
night, making it a popular venue for regular visits.
Just on the outskirts of the town (next to the policlinic), this restaurant
has been visited by many a famous person. It is famous for its variety
of steaks and French style cuisine. It is a little on the expensive side,
but with the excellent service it is well worth it!
Near the bandstand in the Esplanade, this taverna type restaurant offers
Greek food but is most renowned for its pizzas. You may find the service
slow, but you are in Greece after all!
Found in the Mandouki (Port) area, these two tavernas offer excellent
Greek food. They are always filled with locals because of their cheapness,
so be prepared to wait for a table.
Near the Commercial Bank, this modern restaurant offers Italian style
cuisine. Mainly pastas and steaks.
Situated opposite the archaeological museum on Vraila Street - near the
Corfu Palace Hotel on Garitsa Bay. This is a lovely authentic Italian
restaurant offering a very high standard of cuisine and service.
With outlets all over the world and now in Corfu (on the Disco Strip)
In the Hard Rock tradition - check it out. Open nightly. Hard Rock merchandise
can be purchased.
Pizzeria near the airport (Garitsa area) offers excellent food, comfort
and good service.
Along the Liston, you will find numerous tavernas and snack bars which
will vary in comfort and price range and tend to open throughout the day.
Near the Coca flash disco along the port, this restaurant serves pasta
or spaghetti to please everybody's tastes.
Typical Corfiote cuisine in Garitsa area. The best part is that you go
to the kitchen to select exactly what you want.
By law, service charges are included in the bill at hotels, tavernas and
restaurants. The Greeks are not tip-crazy, however, they do expect you
to leave a little more. If, or course, the service has been good and you
enjoyed your meal, then they will be grateful if you show your appreciation.
Even if your room or meals are included as part of your package holiday,
you'll still want to remember the maid or the waiter if they have given
you good service. In general 10% is a satisfactory tip, but this is just
a guideline for you.
