Water Sports
Activities
Most beaches
will have schools giving lessons and hiring out equipment for these sports. All
are very exciting and challenging. Prices of tuition and hire will vary.
Fish are abundant around Corfu. You will find some fascinating
small sea grottoes along the west coast, as well as off shore rocks worth investigating.
During season, there are extended boat trips for advanced divers. See your representative
for details.
As a general rule, Corfu's western coast and northern shores
tend to have more surf than the east coast. Until midsummer,
the water at Paleokastritsa and other western swimming areas
is cooler than the rest of the island.
Two of the nicest beaches are Ag Stefanos Beach near Avliotes
in the north west and St George's Beach otherwise known as
Agios Georgios.
You can swim anywhere on Corfu, currents and tides are negligable.
It is only at or around Corfu Town (notably Garitsa Bay and
Port areas) that swimming should be avoided.
