Islands - Erikoussa
Close to popular Sidari, Erikoussa remains the peaceful island
with few visitors who are spread out on its beach near the
port of Porto. The inhabitants are about 330 and the island
consists of five districts.
The quiet blue sea and the green hills, with colourful homes
on its sides, make for an impressive scene. There is one hotel
on the island and is close to the port, together with the
cafeterias and tavernas.
Climbing the hill behind the port, we reach the beautiful
sandy beach of Faro or Fiki, secluded with crystal clear water
and a view towards the east. In the distance we see the mountains
of Albania.
In Erikoussa the Epirus influence is heavy in the local songs
and food. The housewives of the island make unique and delicious
pites (pies). During Easter the local speciality is tsilikourda
(Tripe cooked with oregano, garlic and Wine).
The island is served by a ferry service from Sidari and Ag.
